This is Precious.

A Review

I just finished watching "Precious" the movie, and it moved me so much I decided to share my thoughts with you. This one is a tear jerker for sure.

This movie is not for small children due mainly to the very flagrant language. Some scenes may be questionable. If you plan on watching this movie put the kids to bed, have the popcorn ready, and your bladder ready. This movie will pull you in and stir your emotions.

Set in the late 80's, Precious is a 16 year old obese black girl, still in middle school and pregnant. Precious has a very abusive mother, who is played by none other than Mo'Nique. Mo'Nique portrays a monster of a mother and does a fabulous job in her role.

Precious has suffered verbal, mental, physical, and sexual abuse from the age of three. She feels unloved and unwanted. Her school has asked her to leave because of her age and the fact she is pregnant with her second child. Precious has been asked to report to an alternative school where she can study and learn in order to pass her GED. When tested, Precious scores a 2.8 in reading and writing, this is second grade eight months into the year.

At home her mother calls her stupid and treats her like a maid. The mother makes her do all the cooking and cleaning, If the mom doesn't like the food prepared for her she makes Precious eat it hungry or not. Yelling and swearing the entire time the mother only wants Precious around for the welfare money.

At the alternative school, Precious is learning, she is making new friends and gives birth to her son. Precious returns to her mothers home with her 3 day old son to be attacked by her mother. When she fell down the stairs holding the baby, my heart almost stopped.

The very wonderful teacher, helped Precious find a place to stay. She continued to stay in school and better herself. I can't tell you much more or I'll spoil the movie for you. All I can say is it is a must see, and make sure the kids are in bed.

I did see this movie and it is heartwrenching. The abuse that this girl goes through is horrid. You are right it is a tear jerker and monique did a great job as the monster in this movie. Good review.

The scene with the baby on the floor ... But if you really want your heart to ache, check out "For Colored Girls". Heartwrenching, but very inspiring for all women.
