How To Write A Sentence

A sentence is a group of words that express a complete thought. There are four types of sentences:

Declarative: A declarative sentence tells something and ends with a period.

Interrogative: An interrogative sentence asks a direct question and ends with a question mark.

Imperative: An imperative sentence gives an order or makes a request and ends with a period.

Exclamatory: An exclamatory sentence shows strong feelings- such as, wonder, surprise, pity, happiness, or anger and it ends with an exclamation mark.

All sentences have two parts, the subject and the predicate. The subject tells what or who the sentence is about. The predicate tells something about the subject. The complete subject or complete predicate can be one or more words.

The subject of a sentence must agree with its verb. If the subject is singular, the verb must be singular. If the subject is plural the verb must be plural. The exception is when using present tense. EXAMPLE: The birdsits on the branch.

A sentence is a group of words expressing a complete thought. A group of words that does not express a complete thought is a sentence fragment. EXAMPLE: Can run fast.

A simple sentence expresses one complete thought. A simple sentence has a complete subject and complete predicate. EXAMPLE: The dog chased the cat.

A compound sentence combines two or more simple sentences which have related ideas. The simple sentences are joined by conjunctions (connecting words) like and, or, and but. You must use a comma before the connecting word.

A run on sentence runs two or more thoughts together. It is hard to tell where one thought ends and the next thought starts. EXAMPLE: My uncle is a fine teacher he teaches ninth grade.

Now you know that I have a cat. My cat is fluffy and black. My cat is seven years old, and his name is Rocky.

I live in a big red wood house.

add information:

I live in a big red wood two story house located in Saint Petersburg, Florida.
